Building Note:
The contemporary architecture of this home lends itself to a non-traditional residential roof. The decision was made to install a “tried and true” built-up roof system. Ideal for low sloped roofs, the assembly of multiple layers of felts between mopped down coal tar pitch produced an impermeable surface. The final layer consisted of a flood coat of coal tar pitch and embedding river rock while the bitumen was still hot.
Detail:
We also formed and installed a small, curved, 16-oz copper standing seam roof. Metal flashings, drip edge, gutters and downspouts were formed from 16-oz copper.
